Olga Vtorushina, Social Learning Consultant, Denmark opened the Knowledge Café by sharing experiences from communities of practice (CoPs) in Denmark.

This was followed by a fishbowl exercise with learning experiences from KM4Dev members who shared:

• The place of KM4Dev in the context of their work
• Their journey into and with KM4Dev
• Areas of value creation in their personal experience of participation
• Activities and relations they found particularly valuable.

We will have Bernardo Mariano Junior, Assistant Secretary General, Chief Information Technology Officer at the United Nations to open up the session as keynote speaker.

This will then be followed by a fishbowl exercise led by:

• Ian Thorpe, Chief, Organizational Learning and Knowledge Management at UNICEF
• Tori Reddy Dodla, Knowledge Collaborative Engineer / SharePoint, US State Department
• Johannes Schunter, Knowledge Management Advisor, Integral Business Coach and AI advocate, CEO of Integral KM, and former UNDP staff.

And we hope that will be followed by many of your contributions.

This significant event also saw the launch of a new sixth generation of knowledge management for sustainable development (KM4SD), as proposed in the first paper of the Special Issue, and a facilitated panel session featuring the authors of other papers in the Special Issue.

This important event will see the launch of the new Special Issue ‘Uncomfortable truths in international development: approaches to the decolonization of knowledge from development practice, policy and research’ of the Knowledge Management for Development Journal. The launch of the Special Issue reflects the dawn of a new generation in the field of knowledge management for development.

The chatbot ChatGPT has been the talk of the town for the past three months. It is officially the fastest growing consumer app of all time. Playing around with it is fun, and its inventing false facts can be annoying, but can it be used productively for knowledge work in its current form? Definitely!

In this Zoom session, Johannes Schunter will explore with us this question and show us a number of useful applications in development work where our organisations can benefit if we are clear about what the bot is good at and what it is not good at. Please bring your questions and scenarios from your work, so we can discuss and try out a few things that are relevant to your practical work!
