Decolonial Subversions: New multilingual open access publishing platform

This article is part of a series of articles on decolonising KM.

In a recent article, I introduced the new initiatives that are working to decolonise research, libraries, and knowledge systems, and recommended that the knowledge management (KM) community play a more active role in progressing the decolonisation of KM. I’ve also alerted to the important role that open access publishing plays in overcoming knowledge colonialism.

Highlighting the significant momentum that the movement to decolonise knowledge is starting to gather, a new multilingual open access publishing platform titled Decolonial Subversions has been established. Founding editors Dr Romina Istratii and Monika Hirmer advise that:

Decolonial Subversions is a newly established open access, multilingual, peer-reviewed publishing platform committed to the decentring of western epistemology in the humanities and social sciences. It seeks to grant more visibility to scholars from the Global South by subverting barriers and norms that govern mainstream Anglophone knowledge production and publishing. We are an international team of collaborators and like-minded researchers, practitioners and professionals from India, Ethiopia, Senegal, Namibia, South Africa, Hong Kong, Hungary, Greece, Moldova, Italy and the UK.

KM researchers who are engaging with decolonial themes are encouraged to contribute to Decolonial Subversions.
